Pilates
Simply put, Pilates helps you do what you love to do, better. Similar to yoga, Pilates is a low impact form of exercise. While yoga is fairly slow and focuses on mobility and stretching, Pilates emphasizes building functional strength using a series of stretching, strengthening and breathing exercises that activate your core muscles and help you become longer and leaner.
Benefits of Pilates
Everyone Can Do Pilates
It can be easily modified so you can perform it safely. With the support of equipment, exercises can be broken down so they are achievable for beginners. Or, it can be made more difficult for those who need the challenge.
Creates Mind Body Connection
Connecting to your body helps you successfully activate and relax your muscles as needed.
Aligns Your Body
By improving your alignment and posture, you can appear slimmer, reduce aches and pains and move better.
Improves Coordination and Balance
This is especially beneficial for older people with osteoporosis, helping them avoid falls.
Works the Whole Body
Unlike lifting weights, which usually works your body in one direction, Pilates strengthens and mobilizes all muscles in the body, making you universally stronger to prevent injury.
Improves Circulation
Pilates exercises strengthen the postural muscles and improve spine mobility to create good posture. This improves circulation by helping the blood flow more easily around the body.
Good for Spine Health
Spinal fluid lubricates the discs and vertebrae of the spinal column. This is what keeps the spine healthy.
Boosts Energy Level
According to research done at the University of Georgia, people with fatigue problems saw their energy levels improve by 20 percent when they stuck to a routine of low-intensity exercise. Pilates works your muscles without over stimulating your nervous system or fatiguing the body.
I’m so glad you found us. I’m excited to introduce you to Pilates or help you continue along your path to strength through movement.
As Joe Pilates said, “Change happens through movement and movement heals.”
Fitness has always been an important and enjoyable part of my life, particularly because my work for more than 30 years involved sitting at a desk. Over 20 years ago, I injured my back while kickboxing. Nothing I did seemed to alleviate the pain, and I was frustrated with my inability to do all I wanted to do. Then, eight years ago I discovered Pilates – and it changed my life forever.
I feel rejuvenated and live a life pain free. And, I have never been stronger, leaner or more balanced, both physically and mentally. I look forward to helping you achieve your goals through movement and strengthening. My focus is on private and small group training to focus my attention on your individual needs.
